I have been here before,
But when or how I cannot tell: I know the grass beyond the door, The sweet keen smell, The sighing sound, the lights around the shore. Dante Gabriel Rossetti In hard times, many of us have found some comfort in other people's words - an inspirational saying , the lyrics of a song, a poem noticed in a newspaper. Finding out that someone else has been there before and put what you feel into words can sometimes help. Gathered here are some suggestions of different poems chosen for different states of mind - and a few words about why the choosers found these words helpful. |
I'm Stephanie, and I curate this website. Things which keep me cheerful include my bike, garden birds and vintage dresses, as well as poetry.
I'm the Head of Oxfordshire Recovery College - we offer free courses on mental health and wellbeing for over 16's living in Oxfordshire. All our courses are designed and delivered by people with their own lived experience of dealing with mental health struggles , working alongside others with trained experience. I wanted to create this website because what makes a difference to our students is listening to others' stories of recovery , and then sharing their own stories too. What helps us all is knowing that someone has been here before - and found a way forward. You can find out more about us here: https://oxfordshirerecoverycollege.org.uk/ |
